Tamta Khalvashi

Researcher

Professor in Anthropology at Ilia State University

This project is a part of Tamta Khalvashi’s larger research with a uniting title “Brokenness”. Khalvashi explores brokenness spatially as well as effectively in Georgia’s capital city of Tbilisi. More concretely, she is interested in what kind of infrastructural forms has brokenness obtained since the end of the Soviet Union and how are these forms manifested in people’s bodies and affective worlds. “Brokenness” is a vernacular term in Georgian through which people describe their affective relation toward a personal, political, or spatial breakdown. In the framework of this project, Khalvashi will investigate yet another form of brokenness among scrap collectors of the city and how it is manifested in their everyday physical and affective work.
